Football as we know it is meant to be a game of gentlemen with the aggression and passion shown on the pitch through the flair and ability of players but one again the game has been brought into negative times following yet another instance of racism in football this weekend.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has once again been within the spotlight following a clear refusal to shake hands with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra following the duo being involved in an earlier race row a short time ago, resulting in the Liverpool striker being charged with racial abuse towards the French international last time that the two players met, Suarez being handed an 8 match ban.
This weekend’s incident happened within what is meant to be the most sporting aspect of the fixture, as the two sides shake hands before the game but Suarez was clearly seen to move his hand away from the Manchester United defenders as he walked the line of rival players, sparking an angry reaction from the Manchester United line up.
Evra was pictured to be unhappy with the clear snub to shake hands and was seen reaching out to grab hold of the striker in a bid to confront him over his omission, letting go almost instantly to allow the striker to continue down the line up where Rio Ferdinand followed the action with his own refusal to shake the hand of the Liverpool front man.
The actions sparked fury within the Manchester United camp and the clear sign of the upset was almost shown during the game as both Evra and Ferdinand appeared to be looking to cause damage to the Liverpool striker as he ran towards goal, drawing a challenge from both United defenders before stepping out of the way and leaving the Man United duo to collide with each other in what could have been a nasty challenge.
Suarez’s action were caught on television camera and will be investigated by the governing bodies that need to see the clear racist action of the striker that has clearly not learnt from his previous eight match spell on the sidelines.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has this morning spoke out about the incident, saying that he was sorry to have seen the incident, a thought that was echoed by the club that have been revealed to have forced the striker to also issue an apology for his actions while the club decide on what further action to take against the Uruguayan international.
Football gossip columns this morning have reported that Liverpool are now on their last stand with the player and have been rumoured to be looking to sell him during the summer transfer window as a clear sign that they will not accept this sort of behaviour within their club, but surely this isn’t enough to bury the issue?
Suarez should be condemned for his actions and a global ban inflicted on the player that would result in the striker being unable to play any form of football anywhere within the world, the clear evidence shows that not only did the snub the hand shake of the Manchester United captain but he was quite pleased by his actions as can be seen within the video footage that captured the incident.
