Villas Boas Fails To Make Blues Regret Sacking

Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas was faced with the challenge of leading his new club out against his former as Tottenham Hotspurs played host to London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League in the first weekend back after the international break however it wasn’t the day for the Portuguese boss to make Chelsea rue sacking him after just nine months in charge.

Chelsea headed into the game with the knowledge that captain John Terry would not be featuring as he began his four game ban for being found guilty of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand but the game was not about to slip away from the league leaders as they took the lead in the first half of the game after defender Gary Cahill volleyed the visitors into the lead.

Villas Boas was clearly not about to allow his former club to leave White Hart Lane with three points without a fight and read the riot act to his side, evident in the way that the hosts stepped up their game, turning the tie in their favour through two quick fire goals from William Gallas followed by Jermain Defoe.

The double blow seemed to ask questions of the Premier League leaders and they weren’t about to disappoint, sparking Spanish international Juan Mata to take the centre stage, helping himself to an equaliser 12 minutes later before giving Chelsea back the lead just three minutes later.

The game was a hard faught battle for both clubs but it was the leaders that continued to push forward and enjoyed most of the attacking action, which allowed Daniel Sturridge to seal the full three points and the victory for the visitors in the 90th minute after being on the field for just 7 minutes, leaving Villas Boas feeling blue.

The win has now opened up the gap at the top of the Premier League to 4 points, giving Chelsea a great standing as the clubs gear up towards their festive schedule as the clubs fight to enter into the dog fight to be on top of the pile as the new year comes into play.
